Lessons from Michael: love is a feeling.

"You always knew just how to make me cry. And never did I ask you questions why... it seems you get your kicks from hurting me. Don't try to understand me because your words just aren't enough."

"Give Into Me" - Michael Jackson

Wearing: Michael Jackson Beat It Shirt

This is what I wore to last week's meetup. I have plenty of pink and red shirts but, I decided to mix it up and do something a little more colorful and fun. We went along with the Valentine's Day theme and held a Michael Jackson love songs discussion. The group spoke about songs from "Lady In My Life" to "Rock With You" to "I Can't Help It" but, I chose to go the non-traditional route and talk about "Give Into Me". In my interpretation this song is all about a one sided and unevenly yoked relationship, Michael being the partner that was giving 100% and could never get his mate to GIVE IN to his needs.

Love songs don't always have to be lovey-dovey to be raw and passionate and I love how Michael takes on these kinds of subjects.

In other news... just when I thought nothing else could go wrong for me this past week- God spoke to me and seriously showed me that I have to much in store; So much more to accomplish in life. My frown turned upside down when I was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime this week. I pray that it all goes well and that I can remain focused on the task at hand. I have always dreamed about putting my number one passion to work and using my business skill and expertise to make wonderful things happen... and now it is my time to shine.

Thanks for reading!

and PS. thanks so much to all who entered my very first giveaway
congrats to Kimberly who won the Jackson 5 DVD-- let us know how you like it! xx

Coming to terms with the song Breaking News.

Okay so I am coming to you with an entry that kind sorta kills two birds with one stone.

Bear with me here.

So I wanted to show you one of my most prized possessions ... this really rare (and super cute) Michael Jackson women's shirt. So I told you guys about how I have wayyyyyy too many Michael Jackson t-shirts before. Well here is one of my favorites.  I love it because it's basically a fabric collage of newspaper clippings about Michael from the 1980s. I was sent this gift from an old friend (who I suspect may have gotten this from e-Bay).

It's always one of my best picks to wear during the summer season and I wanted to share it with you guys.

As you can see, most of the articles are written in what looks like French and all of the photos seem to be from the Thriller Era.

It has a scoop neck and a cute little tie on the right side. You guys can see that this is not the longest shirt that I own and I wore this a few years back to the Spike Lee Brooklyn Loves MJ event because it was the lightest MJ shirt I have (it was over 95 degrees and we were standing all in the direct sunlight!)

I also wanted to take this time out to talk about a song that is always a topic of discussion among Michael Jackson fans. The song BREAKING NEWS....

How do you feel about the song "Breaking News"?

I was like many other Michael Jackson fans around the world that waited anxiously on Michael's official website to hear the song and I was disappointed at first....

But now I love it.

I can't put my finger on it.

I am not the biggest fan of the lyrics but, I do enjoy listening to it now when I am talking my morning walk to the train station. It takes me a long time to warm up to new material (well, posthumous material anyway) and nearly a year (if not more???) later---- I can listen to it and have fun with it.

Did you have a hard time adjusting to posthumous Michael work like I did?
What do you think about Breaking News?

LOOKBOOK: Michael Jackson VINTAGE GLITTER

Michael was not all about the military look. Lets not forget that before Billie Jean on Motown 25, he was rocking sequins, rhinestones, and the vintage glitter look.

This outfit is Michael Inspired but not, "OMGZ I'm a Michael Jackson fanatic" (which I am but, that's besides the point).

Simple, sexy, clean

Jacket:   H&M
Shoes:  Nine West
Jean Leggings:  GAP

Looking beyond the horizon... The Michael Jackson Bad Tee from Urban Outfitters.

Years ago when I first became a huge Michael fan, I would have never imagined that there'd be as many MJ T-Shirts as there are now. Back when I was in high school, I'd spend countless hours on eBay, trying to bid on vintage items from the Victory and Triumph era. I basically worked part-time just so that I could have enough money to buy shirts that would help me display my MJ love loud and proud.

My, how the times have changed.

I picked this shirt up last summer at Urban Outfitters. Although it's so obviously a photo from the Thriller era, it was called the Michael Jackson Bad Tee. (That may help if you are looking to pick this baby up on eBay!)

It's one of the few shirts I have with a clear, defined photo of Michael's face! I had been in and out of stores looking for MJJ shirts and when I saw this, I had to have it! Even though this is a men's shirt, there's no reason why the ladies can't take part in this beauty! Almost all of my MJ fan friends have this shirt and 8/10 are women :-).

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend. I have a few plans here and there but after the work week, my main priority is to relax and enjoy time with friends.

I'll leave you guys with this inspirational quote that I came across last night.

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed...It feels an impulsion...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”

Thanks for reading and until next time.... xx.

Guilty Pleasures: Michael Jackson T Shirt Collection

Hmmm... what to wear, what to wear?

Am I the only one that has a hard time choosing what to wear when I go out to Michael Jackson related-events? I am always wondering what to wear and I guess that's why I have almost 50 Michael Jackson T-Shirts in my collection. Yes, I know, perhaps 49 shirts too many for the everyday person but, not nearly enough for the avid MJ Fan.

What is the one Michael Jackson item you just can't enough of?

Michael Jackson Lookbook: Off The Wall Era at DisneyLand

This outfit was inspired by:

Books I'm Reading Right Now

MoonwalkBy Michael Jackson (re-reading!)
Women Don't Ask By Linda Babcock, Sara Laschever

Totally inspired by the wholesome, preppy, and absolutely-work appropriate outfit that Michael wore to Disneyland during the Off The Wall era. Michael did so many of these sweater/collared button-layered looks and to be honest, this style has been a staple of mine at work all winter. Since it is warming up here though, I decided that it was okay to break out the coral sweater (one of the colors I am going wild over for this Spring.) Most of my spring wardrobe will be cenetered around baby pinks, mint greens, creams, light grays, and my favorite... light denim!

I actually wore this to work today but, took photos of this outfit earlier this week (when I was able to take some time out of my day at a decent hour to catch some sunlight).

Work has been really hectic for me because it is my first time actually doing the event execution (from start to finish) on my company's debut at one of the biggest beauty events here in NYC. Very excited, especially since my dream career is to run my own event planning business. Someday I know I will be able to plan these types of things without any major headaches but, for now, I am kind of (notice I said, kind-of) enjoying the organizing, reading and reviewing, negotiating with vendors and such. I am very business minded and I truly enjoy the challenge that I am now experiencing at work every day.

Anyway, am I the only one that is very excited for the Spring to come? I can't wait to start taking shots of more creative MJ-inspired Lookbooks. I hope you guys enjoyed my Disneyland Lookbook today. If you enjoy my blog posts...

Michael Jackson Lookbook: Darryl from BAD

Hi everyone!

Although we had some warmer days during the week, it quickly froze up again here in NYC.
I didn't have too many special things planned for the weekend but, I did end up going out with a friend to get a new Kindle earlier this morning.  (I am a Kindle addict!--
I should do a post about how awesome the Kindle is in the future, note to self).

I decided to spruce up a normal hoodie and skinny jeans look and add my peacoat on top of it. This look is not only city chic, it is direcly channeling the character "Darryl" that Michael plays in the BAD video. If you have never seen the long version of the BAD music video, I highly recommend that you check it out. You can see it on YouTube or get the actual full version on the Michael Jackson's Vision DVD set (my fave!). The first time I saw it, I was really intrigued by the story (and of course, by how gorgeous Michael is!)

 The Look
Coat-Via Spiga
Jeans- GAP
Boots- Naturalizer
Sweater- Abercrombie & Fitch
Glasses- Tortoise Shell, homeboy.

I am usually a jeans and sneakers kinda girl on the weekends, especially going to the mall. But, ever since I got these shoes from Naturalizer, I cannot stop wearing them! They aren't super high and they are comfy enough to wear all day (even walking down long city blocks and up and down the subway stairs.)

I was so burned out this past week at work and I know that I have lots more busy days ahead of me.
Hopefully I will find some time to show you guys some of the cool new MJ items that I snagged on eBay a little while ago later next week.

i heart mj tee shirts

The I HEART MJ tee is one of the most basic types of fan shirts there is around. The message is loud and clear. I love the look because it's so simple and that's what makes it fun to wear.

This is turning out to be a pretty busy week for me but, to me, it's always better to be more busy than bored. I have been having really busy days at work but, this weekend I am looking forward to going snow tubing with some of my MJ friends. I also am working on a big project with the Legacy of Love Team. Legacy of Love is one of the largest and most active groups here in New York City and it's been where I've met the most MJ fan friends.

Don't forget to check back here this weekend for another awesome Michael Jackson inspired fashion post!

XOXO!
